The origin of 420 and cannabis culture from an Australian cultural perspective.

Today is the 20th of April 2024.

If you are into numerology, this may mean something to you or not. If you are into keeping track of the day, this will definitely be useful to you, and if you are in the USA, your date would be written as 4/20/2024.

The date known amongst cultures as an unofficial holiday representing cannabis culture.

The “420" term comes from a historical and most credible story we have read based on five students in California in the 1970’s using the term as code for a meeting place and “marijuana”.

The significance of that story has carried over international waters and here in Australia today. If someone is “420 friendly” that means they either use or don’t discriminate against the use of cannabis. The date is written 20/04/2024 here, so the term doesn’t translate as well.

Although cannabis culture in Australia is very relevant in today’s society. Australia, having yet fully to legalise marijuana is now into the medical use, general conception, and growth of the green plant but under guidelines that the individual has to meet. These guidelines are still changing, are different for each state and territory, and are continuing to evolve in its practical uses.

Where I live, cannabis and the use of is illegal. Yet today’s so community, maybe speaking in general or…
